Retainers

Retainers

Many people presume that once their braces have been removed, their orthodontic journey has ended. This is, however, simply not the case. It is important to prevent your teeth from moving once your braces have been removed, and for this reason, we provide every patient with a set of removable retainers.

Your orthodontist will explain to you in detail when and how to wear your retainers. In general, your retainers must be worn frequently in the first year after your braces are removed. After the first year, you can reduce how frequently you wear your retainers, but you should not stop wearing them completely otherwise your teeth may move.

Aside from the high-quality retainers, we produce at Bath Orthodontics, we are also able to provide Vivera retainers to our clients.

Vivera retainers are made from the same innovative technology used to create Invisalign aligners. Vivera retainers are made from a material that is 30% stronger than standard retainers, making them incredibly long-lasting and durable. Increased strength ensures your Vivera retainer is less likely to crack or break, compared to a standard retainer. Vivera retainers are custom-made to your exact requirements, ensuring they offer you a comfortable and precise fit. Vivera retainers are available to all orthodontic patients, regardless of whether they have used Invisalign aligners or traditional wire braces previously.

Fixed Retainers

Occasionally, some patients may benefit from having a fixed retainer or ‘wire’ glued to the back surface of the teeth, making them invisible when a person smiles and talks. Fixed retainers are not always necessary and your orthodontist will discuss with you in detail whether or not you require a fixed retainer.

In addition to our in-house wires, we also provide Memotain fixed retainers. Memotain wire retainers are created using advanced software that creates a wire that fits precisely with the unique tooth shape of every patient. Each Memotain retainer created is unique, and is designed using computer-aided manufacturing processes. To ensure Memotain retainers are comfortable, they are put through a thorough electropolishing process, which smoothes and rounds the edges of the retainer.
